Product Watch October 2013

All of this month’s new findings are in the sweets and snacks categories. I guess I have been browsing the treat aisles a bit more than usual due to it being Halloween.

My kids loved these Moo Free Organic chocolate drops, but at €1.75 a bag, they are a bit pricey for a kids treat. Delicious though. I found in a health food shop, no sign in my local supermarkets yet.

I found these delicious gingerbread men in the regular biscuit aisle in Tesco in Westport, Co. Mayo. They are dairy free and my kids loved them.

I had a browse through the dairy free section in Pettitt’s Supervalu yesterday, it has nearly doubled in size since last time I chekced. They have some lovely new items.

These are the Nakd range of cereal bars.  There are four available in my local Supervalu, Cocoa Delight , Cocoa Orange, Berry delight and Cashew Cookie.  They have a huge range of items on their website which would be great to see hit our stores here. Their idea is less ingredients, more natural healthy food. We tasted the cocoa delight and it was a hit with the boys. The bars are dairy-free, gluten-free and wheat-free.

Supervalu have come up with their own range of dairy free and gluten free biscuits. The Lemon Crunch cookies are the best value at €1.79 per box, but the Ginger crunch are €2.99 and the Ginger chocolate ones are over the €3 mark. I can’t comment on the taste yet as I didn’t buy some but good that they are available.

Also on the Supervalu shelves I found dairy free and gluten free shortbread. The brand is Lazy Day and they have Ginger Snap, Chocolate Chip and Shortbread flavours. A bit expensive at €3.29 a box, but I have never seen dairyfree shortbread before and it’d be lovely for a special occasion. I’m thinking more for dairy free adults than kids though.

My friend came to dinner today and spoiled us with dairy free chocolate cake and a raspberry bakewell tart. Both were made by The Gluten Free Foodie brand  and are available in Supervalu. Both were delicious, and were devoured by children and parents alike.
