Product Watch March & April 2016

It’s been a busy couple of months so I’m a bit late getting around to the product watch. There seems to be plenty of new things on the shelves to try out. Here’s a few that I found in the last few weeks.

The Happy Pear Pesto

These pestos can be found in the fridge in Super Valu and also at The Happy Pear shop in Greystones. The Sundried tomato one is dairy free.

Alpro Fusion Drinks

Alpro have an interesting new single serve drink on the shelves. I’ve seen them in the yogurt aisle and also as part of Tesco’s sandwich-snack-drink meal deal! Alpro Fusion is a fusion of fruit juice and soya milk. The two flavours are Soya Apple Kiwi and Coconut Pineapple Lemongrass. I haven’t bought them yet to try but I’ve heard from one Mum that their little ones love them and another whose son hates them. So no conclusion yet here. They are in Tesco and Dunnes Stores.

Violife Cream Cheese

I reviewed the Violife range before but we hadn’t tried the Violife Creamy. I recently found it in my local Dunnes Stores and got some for the boys. It tastes like cream cheese, not completely of course but I thought it tasted pretty ok in smoked salmon, cucumber and creamy violife wraps.

Kelkin Gluten & Wheat Free Chocolate Cream Wafers

One of my readers sent me a message about these biscuits (Thanks Luisana!). They are labelled gluten and wheat free but they contain no dairy or egg either. My boys were offered them at a friend’s house and they were absolutely delighted! They loved them! Find on the free from aisle in Tesco.

Alpro Go On

This is described as a plant based alternative to strained yogurts. It has a higher protein content than regular soya based yogurts. I have seen it appear in the fridge in SuperValu (Thanks Sinead for tip-off), Tesco and Dunnes Stores. We haven’t tried yet but the blackcurrant, mango and passion fruit flavours look delicious.

Tesco Free From Strawberry & Vanilla Cones

Tesco have changed their Free From packages to make it simpler to read. These cones are free from Gluten, Wheat and milk and you can see that immediately on the purple label. I know these have been available for ages in the UK and have been in Ireland a short while, but we only got them in our local Tesco lately. The boys were overjoyed. The cutest thing ever was when my 7 year old said: “Mammy, they have chocolate at the end of the cone.” I’m so glad they got to taste their version of a Cornetto. :-) I think it will be a regular treat this summer. I’ve been asked several times already to buy them again!

Note: I have not been asked to mention or write about any of these products, all opinions are my own.
