Dairy Free Yogurt Alternatives
|Soya Alternatives to Yogurt
Alpro 500ml Tubs
Alpro are the market leaders in soya based yogurt alternatives. They have a large range available now and seem to increase it every few months. Tesco Free From also have a range of soya based yogurt alternatives.
Alpro do 500ml tubs of plain, vanilla, rhubarb & strawberry and lemon & lime. They also do Plain with Coconut and Plain with Almond, these are still soy based but also contain coconut alternative to milk and almond milk respectively.
Tesco Free From 500ml
Tesco Free From also do 500ml tubs of plain unsweetened soya yogurt.
Alpro 100ml Tubs
Alpro also do these regular sized 100ml tubs in packs of 4.
They come in flavours:
- Blueberry & Cherry
- No Bits 2 x Banana & Strawberry and 2 x Peach & Pear
- Pineapple, Passion Fruit & Peach
- Blackcurrant with Elderflower and Pomegranate
- Raspberry, Cranberry & Blackberry
If you are buying for a small child I’d recommend the No Bits ones. These yogurts have a substantial amount of sugar also so you may wish to get the simply plain and add your own fruit to sweeten.
Tesco Free From 100ml Tubs
Tesco Free From do the 4 x 100ml packs also. They come in flavours:- Peach, Raspberry & Passion Fruit and Mango. The boys love these as much as the Alpro ones and the mango is a firm favourite.
Tesco Free From Fromage Frais
In the UK they also have soya based fromage frais in strawberry and banana flavours but I haven’t seen it in the chilled section in Tesco Ireland yet.
Alpro Go On
These are Alpro’s answer to the new trend of strained high protein yogurts. They taste pretty good, and come in the following flavours:
- Mango
- Passion Fruit
- Blackcurrant
Coconut Based Yogurts
Koko Dairy Free have recently released coconut based yogurts. They are Dairy Free and soya free. The boys tried the Peach and Passion Fruit and Strawberry flavours. They loved them. I didn’t even get a taste as they were gone before I realised! They cost considerably more than the soya based yogurts at €1.75 for a pack of 2. It is wonderful to see a dairy and soya free option for yogurt make it on to the shelves of the main supermarkets! I found them in Dunnes Stores. The other flavours are Coconut & Lemon and Raspberry.
Coyo
I found this range in Dunnes Stores also. Another coconut based yogurt. At €3 a tub they are expensive but it’s great to see them easily available all the same. They are dairy free, vegan and gluten free. They come in fancy flavours like Raw chocolate, Banana, Chia & Cardamom, Calypso and Natural.
Pea Protein Based Yogurts
Wot No Dairy? is a pea protein based yogurt/dessert which you can find in health stores. It is not refrigerated. Dairy Free, Soy Free and Nut free.
I hope you find this round up helpful especially if you are just starting out dairy free. Which is your favourite dairy free yogurt?
My LG is allergic to coconut and dairy, but luckily completed the soy ladder recently. Her favourites are the tescos free from strawberry fromage frais. I have to hide them until pudding, otherwise she won’t et anything else until she has had one. Not tried the banana yet as she is allergic to those, so been a bit apprehensive.
Oh great that she completed the soy ladder. We don’t have the fromage frais here but I’m keeping an eye out for them! I can imagine they are lovely and sweet. Best of luck with managing the multiple allergies.
