Dairy Free Ice-Cream Alternatives

I wrote this post 2 years ago and I’m delighted to say there are SO many new dairy free iced desserts available since then, even dairy free cornetto style ice-creams and mini magnums!

Dairy Free Ice-Cream At Home

This time of year when the sun is shining and every second person out and about seems to have an ice-cream cone, it is easy to feel you are missing out by being dairy-free.

Fortunately there are more dairy free ice-cream options than ever available for those unable to have milk.

Here are some of our favourites and where to find them. This post will focus on ice-cream to buy and serve at home.

Dairy free alternatives to ice-cream

Swedish Glace

Vanilla Swedish Glace

This is a soya based dairy-free ice-cream and is dairy-free, lactose-free, gluten-free and egg-free. It comes in Smooth Vanilla, Juicy Raspberry, Rich Chocolate, Wild Blueberry and Neapolitan. The new white octagonal containers are easily recognisable. They can be found in SuperValu, Dunnes Stores and Tesco and many health stores.

nobó

This is an Irish-made dairy free ice-cream made with coconut milk, avocado and other all natural ingredients. The philosophy is to make a nutritious but also indulgent alternative to dairy ice-cream. They come in 5 flavours – Vanilla & Coconut, Fresh Lemon, Chocolate & Toasted Almond, Irish Salted Caramel and Passion Fruit & Mango. My favourites are the chocolate (of course!) and the salted caramel is to die for. They are stocked in most Super Valu stores and nationwide in health stores. This summer they have a pop up store in Baggot Street selling 99s – yes a whipped version of their ice-cream in cones!

The Foodie Market Free From Coconut Iced Desserts

These coconut based iced dessert tubs from Aldi are just delicious and are very reasonably priced. They are milk free and vegan. We are big fans of the chocolate one.

Tesco Free From

Tesco Free From are leading the way at the moment with Free From ice-creams and recreating many old favourite ice-creams! They won a gold award at the Free From Food Awards Ireland this year for their Dairy Free Strawberry and Vanilla Ice Cream Cones which are just like cornettos!

Booja-Booja

Some dairy free kids readers sent me these photos of the dairy free dessert selection in The Health Store. Booja-Booja do a fab range of ice-creams, Hunky Punky Chocolate, Coconut Hullabaloo and PomPomPous Maple Pecan are just a few. I haven’t tried these ones yet myself but I hear they’re amazing.

It’s two years now since the Ben & Jerry’s non dairy hit freezers in the US but there is still no news on if or when they’ll be available here.

Haagen Daaz

Another big famous ice-cream brand is launching non dairy flavours across the pond in the U.S.A. Hope we won’t have to wait too long to see this here!
