Recipe: Bread Maker Brown Seeded Loaf

It being Father’s Day tomorrow, I decided to share one of my husband’s recipes. We recently received a bread maker as a gift and I incorrectly assumed it would just lie in a press unused, but my husband has used it frequently and made some excellent bread with it. Here is his finely tuned recipe for brown seeded loaf.

Recipe: Bread Maker Brown Seeded Loaf

All the ingredients are measured using the cup that came with the breadmaker.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups water
1 tblsp oil (any veg oil)
1 cup plain flour
2 1/2 cups wheat flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sunflower seeds*
1/4 cup chia seeds*
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds*
2 tsp yeast

*These are optional

Steps:

Ensure you put in the ingredients in the order above. The important thing to remember is to put the yeast in last. This is especially important if you are going to use a timer so you can make sure the yeast is on top of the dry ingredients instead of in the water.

Use the setting for wheaten bread 700g and press start.

Different breadmakers take different times but ours takes 3 1/2 hours.

Serve warm with your favourite dairy free margarine, jam, or nut butter.

I wasn’t sold on the idea of a breadmaker, I thought ‘sure I know how to make bread in the oven’, see here and here. However, it is super easy and quick to use and less mess than the traditional method. It is lovely to have fresh homemade bread once a week and great if we have visitors staying. There are options for soda bread, French bread, white bread and many others. I still have yet to use it myself but I’ll continue enjoying the bread my husband bakes in it. :o)

Do you have a breadmaker? What kind of nice bread have you made?
